The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for Perdue’s frozen ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken tenders

As per the alert, the RTE chicken tenders “gluten-free” may be contaminated with foreign materials, specifically tiny pieces of clear plastic and blue dye. The agency said a recall was not requested because the product is no longer available for sale.

The item in question is the “Perdue Chicken Breast Tenders Gluten Free” in a 42 oz. plastic bag with a “Best if Used By” date of July 12, 2023. The product bears a lot number of 2193 above the use-by date and establishment number “P-33944” immediately below the expiration date on the back of the plastic bag.

The potentially contaminated item was produced on July 12, 2022, and sold nationwide at B.J.’s Wholesale Club retail locations.

The problem was discovered when FSIS received a complaint from a consumer about a chicken tender with a small piece of clear plastic and blue dye inside it.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions to date.
